Leicester are heading to Manchester on Friday to face the Belle Vue Aces at the new National Speedway Stadium.
The venue was due to open last month but there was a problem with the sub base of the track around the third and fourth bends which prevented the meeting from going ahead. Now that has been fixed the Paul Chapman and Sons Lions have the honour of being the first club to race competitively there.
“To be the first club to ride at the new National Stadium is an honour indeed. I know the boys were looking forward to treading new ground so to speak and by all accounts the facilities are just what British Speedway needs. To have a modern venue where we can showcase the sport to a wider audience is a plus factor and it is fitting that the World Cup has been awarded to Belle Vue together with the British Final which has moved from Wolverhampton” said the Lions Team Manager Norrie Allan.
Belle Vue are forced into one change with Matej Zagar missing the opener as he is required to race for his Polish club Gorzow and one of their former riders, Chris Harris will deputise.
